Windows 8.1 was released on October 17th, 2013, a year after the retail release of Windows 8.0, which was October 26th, 2012. Windows 8.0 was criticized because its user interface was confusing and difficult to learn due to its over-optimization for tablet PCs.
We have previously written about the shortcomings of Windows 8, and we’ll remind you again of these shortcomings quickly before getting on topic:
- Removal of start icon
- Start screen
- Corner-based navigation
- Charms bar
- Unresizable full-screen Metro apps
- Two versions of Internet Explorer
- Complicated shutdown process
- and more…
Windows 8.1 is slated to end its support on January 10, 2023. This means that there will be no more security updates and general system updates released for this operating system, and users who still use this operating system should upgrade to the latest version of Windows, which is Windows 11, to continue getting support.
Goodbye, Windows 8.1! You’ll not be missed!
