Kernel Simulator 0.0.23.0

📆

👤

Today, Kernel Simulator just got a minor upgrade to the 0.0.23.0 to add some extra minor features to the 0.0.22.x series, with improvements in place. We’ll be introducing you to brand new features that this new version offers.

No APM Mode Simulation

Did you remember back in the ancient days of computing when you had to shut down the operating system first (Windows 95, Mac OS, Linux 2.2, etc.) and then power the computer off manually once the message that shows “It’s now safe to turn off your PC” appears on the screen? This is because there was no Advanced Power Management (APM) implementation in the old PCs, so it wasn’t possible to fully power these PCs off.

Kernel Simulator 0.0.23.0 now simulates the same exact behavior, except that you just have to press any key to exit the simulation program cleanly.

Fader Splash

It was 0.0.20.0 when we added splashes to the kernel. It showed you the splash screen, optionally reporting the progress to the splash so that you’ll stay informed about what was happening during the kernel startup. We have made the Fader screensaver series a long time ago.

The Fader series found its way to the splash screen! If you are a fan to the Fader series, you’ll be able to use both Fader and FaderBack as your splash screen!

Let us remind you about the Fader and FaderBack screensavers and splashes combined:

  1. Fader Series (Screensavers)
    • Fader: This screensaver gives you a text that fades in and out in random places on the screen.
    • FaderBack: This screensaver fades your console screen in and out with the colors that are selected randomly.
  2. Fader Series (Splashes)
    • Fader: This splash screen gives you a green colored text that fades in as the kernel boots.
    • FaderBack: This splash screen fades your console screen in and out with the green color as the kernel boots.

The English Dictionary

The English Dictionary is what we’ve imagined in Kernel Simulator. You can now access the full English dictionary, combined with phonetics, words, meanings, synonyms, antonyms, and examples. This will make your life easier as you’ll develop your own vocabulary using the new command, dict, that we’ve built.

However, the implementation will be moved to a separate library that will be released later.
