As we’re nearly done with the development of the second-gen version of Kernel Simulator after almost 6 months, we’re proud to announce that Kernel Simulator second-gen versions will have a different support timeline which will be explained below.
Kernel Simulator first-gen versions had three-year support for LTS versions that get released every three successive versions, and these versions had only one year of support. They start from the time that these versions were released. Let’s make this clear:
- Take
0.0.16
as an example. It was released on June 12, 2021, and will be out of support after exactly three years, which is June 12, 2024. - Now, take
0.0.17
as an example. It was out on July 4, 2021, and will be out of support after one year, which is July 4, 2022.
The second-generation versions will now follow the different timeline of support, including the new support phases:
- Mainstream Support: The duration of this support is three years in long-term versions, which will now be out every four successive short-term versions, and two years in short-term versions.
- Security Support: This phase duration is two years after the mainstream support of long-term versions ends. Not available in short-term versions.
So, the upcoming 0.0.20.0
will have this support timeline:
- Final release starts in February 22, 2022
- Mainstream support ends in February 22, 2025
- Security support ends in February 22, 2027
The upcoming new versions will be made after a few weeks to allow time for maintenance versions of the released ones.
The first-generation Kernel Simulator as a whole will be out of support in June 12, 2024.
